Series: Greetings from Chorzów
General Jerzy Zietek Regional Park of Entertainment and Culture in Chorzów, as this is the exact name of the place, is a childhood memory. Everybody who lives in Silesia has visited Chorzów zoo, funfair or planetarium. You can find everything in the park. It is the only place in the Silesia region with such a tremendous variety of leisure attractions. This is a place literally for everyone.
I have been trying to capture various ways of spending free time. That is why this place seemed to be the best to accomplish my project. I am amazed that having a chance of simply watching television in their free time, people go out and spend quite a lot of money to enjoy themselves with their families in the funfair or zoo. Most of the people who you can see in the park are inhabitants of Silesia, representatives of middle class or blue collar workers.
The park experiences the biggest number of visitors at weekends. Except for outdoor dancing you can experience open-air concerts and majorette parades, flower festivals and exotic animals fair. On weekdays the park is the place of relax for inhabitants of the nearby ‘1000-lecia’ district in Katowice. They treat the place as their own garden. People have their favourite spots where they come with their deckchairs, blankets, and play chess or cards.
