First stage - entries

Any professional photographer / artists using photography from Baltic States, Europe and other continents can be KAUNAS PHOTO STAR, yet he / she must be committed to travel to Lithuania, if selected to the second stage - portfolio reviews. The competion is open to all themes, styles, approaches, yet we expect series of photographs and picture stories only in sets of 20-30 images, which can be from two different bodies of work. We are looking for new and fresh, preferably unshown and unpublished photography. The KAUNAS PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY, venue of the exhibition of the winner, is vast, and it will need to be filled with a consistent body of high quality works. Therefore we kindly ask not to submit single images or parts of small series, regardless of how beautiful or powerful they are.

 

Entries by e-mail only to: festival@kaunasphoto.info E-mail subject: KAUNAS PHOTO STAR_Name_SURNAME (1/3, 2/3, 3/3 - if sent by multiple emails)

E-mail should include: a) 20-30 jpg images, b) CV 150 words max (~.doc), c) artistic statement 100 words max (~.doc) and d) filled, signed and scanned entry form (jpg or pdf) on page 3.

Attachments: loose files or ZIPs. File specifications: 1200 px on the longer side. RGB, JPG only, JPG quality – 90%.

File naming: Name_SURNAME_Title-of-the-series_Place_year_01.jpg

What not to send: TIF, Power Point, PDF or other than JPG types files. For sequencing of images, use file numbers. No entries sent by mail will be considered or returned.

Deadline for submission – June 10, 2011, 23:59 GMT +2.

First stage participation fee is 10 EUR (net), payable via PayPal to festival@light.lt -“NameSURNAME-KPStar1” or bank transfer. Transfer details will be shared on request.

 

Pre-selection of 60 candidates will be made by June 15, 2011 by e-mail. Finalists will be informed personally.

 

Second stage – portfolio reviews

 

Portfolio review for photographers is the best way to be noticed by the professionals of the photo art business, get their feedbacks and eventually proposals of promotion, publications, exhibitions, acquisitions. KAUNAS PHOTO festival will offer a chance to 60 pre-selected photographers - Finalosts - to meet distinctive representatives of galleries, museums, magazines of photography from Lithuania, Baltic, Nordic and other European countries in one place. Since KAUNAS PHOTO STAR portfolio review appointments last 15 minutes, photographers are able to meet more reviewers than in most portfolio reviews in Europe or USA.

 

Second stage participation fee is 50 EUR. Payment details will be announced to the finalists. Photographers must do their travel arrangements at their own cost. KAUNAS PHOTO festival web site or newsletters sent to finalists will provide travel tips to Lithuania and links to best hotel offers. Compared to many European cities, Kaunas offers a great value for price in accommodation and dining options.

 

 

The portfolio reviews will be held in Kaunas on August 25 and 26. The winner will be distinguished by the number of votes of portfolio reviewers. The works of the 60 candidates will be celebrated and projected in the Night of Photography at KAUNAS PHOTO festival on August 26, 2011. During this event, the winner and special mentions will be announced. Besides choosing the winner, the KAUNAS PHOTO STAR portfolio reviewers will be able to propose special mentions and awards.

 

The KAUNAS PHOTO STAR winner's exhibition will be shown at KAUNAS PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY during KAUNAS PHOTO 2012. The festival will undertake the winner's travel / flight costs, hotel accommodation, transportation or production of works. However, if the elected KAUNAS PHOTO STAR will not originate from within Europe, the festival might undertake only a part of travel expenses.
