In the time of infinity of pictures taken every minute, KAUNAS PHOTO festival is constantly looking for great photographers, those, whom we could call new stars of photography.

 

It was a wonderful week for me. You offered me a great show in a wonderful place that any photographer would dream to have, and the exhibition was openned by the Minister of Culture of Lithuania, an important recognition for my work. I discovered the good work of other photographers and meet great people. The exhibitions were all different but interesting. In this festival I feel the passion for photography, pure and untouched. In 2010, Mindaugas Kavaliauskas, founder and director of KAUNAS PHOTO festival, and Gintaras Česonis, director of KAUNAS PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY, launched KAUNAS PHOTO STAR, a portfolio review event and competition, the success of which surpassed expectations. In 2011 the geographic variety of participants showed growth, same as the number of reviewers and pre-selected photographers.

The winner of KAUNAS PHOTO STAR 2010, Eric LUSITO (France) has had his award - a solo exhibition “After The Wall” produced by KAUNAS PHOTO festival 2011 at KAUNAS PHOTOGRAPHY gallery, and the winner of KAUNAS PHOTO STAR 2011, Luca Zanier (Switzerland) will open his exhibition at this gallery as the launching exhibition of the festival on September 4, 2012.

KAUNAS PHOTO STAR is back again in 2012, calling photographers regardless of their age, nationality, country of residence, themes and styles of photography.

This year KAUNAS PHOTO STAR portfolio review project has expanded, adding an initial on-line portfolio reviews stage, which will be a valuable tool to expose the works of photographers to experts of photography from 5 continents.

KAUNAS PHOTO STAR 2012 is much more than just a portfolio review or a competition...

• 60 experts online from 5 continents, reviewing works and rating them;

• 20 reviewers in face-to-face personal reviews facing the finalist's works in Kaunas on September 6 and 7, 2012;

• A portfolio walk, enabling photographers to meet all reviewers;

• A "KAUNAS PHOTO STAR Photographers' Night" on September 7, 2012 with every finalist presenting his / her work to the audience, culminated by the announcement of the Winner and the Runners-up;

• One Winner receiving an invitation for a solo exhibition at KAUNAS PHOTOGRAPHY GALLERY in 2013 with expenses paid by KAUNAS PHOTO festival

• A number or Runners-up - receiving invitations for solo exhibitions to 5 museum / gallery spaces of Europe;
