One part of the “Photographs from Poland” series shows photographs taken during rural fairs and festivities in Silesia and the Opole region. The images were captured over the course of two summer seasons (2005, 2006). They are a deeply subjective illustrations of events taking place (usually) between 10 pm and 2 am, when the wild, festive atmosphere of earlier hours is gradually winding down, and the mood of the revellers swings from mutual emotional outpouring to moments of individual reflection. The author’s basic aim was to capture this “unique mood”.
The second part is the pictures made in Warsaw's “Praga” district in 2007. After the Second World War, the demolished neighbourhoods of the left bank of the Vistula river in Warsaw were rebuilt. Today, those neighbourhoods are considered to be a jewel of the city. "Praga" on the right bank of the river was left relatively unscathed during the war, but it was then left alone to deteriorate. It was the abandoned citizens of Warsaw who found their home in the old stone buildings of this district. Many of these unfortunate people are the author’s friends and neighbours today. He portrays them in their ordinary, everyday surroundings.
About Maciej Pisuk
Graduated the screenwriting courses at the State Academy of Cinema, Television and Theatre in Łódź. Work as a screenwriter. For the last six years he has also been involved in photography. He is a member of the “Forum” photographic agency.
Maciej is the winner of several prizes and honourable mentions in Polish national competitions of photography. He also several times received honourable mentions at The Pilsner Urquell International Photography Awards and won the First Prize in the Photojournalism category at the 2008 PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris competition.
